You may have received an email from us asking you to confirm you're the card holder of the credit card used for your recent order (see the email text below).
If this happened it's not a cause for concern, rather ta sign that we're acting fast to protect legitimate cardholders like you from fraudulent use of your cards.
Like a lot of the world's leading E-commerce brands we use Shopify's Shop Pay payment gateway. One of the benefits to customers of this gateway is the very high level of protection for cardholders. If it detects anything unusual during the payment the order is diverted for a verification check.
Once the cardholder's identity is verified the order proceeds as usual.
If we can't verify the identity of the card holder the order is cancelled and the card refunded.
This process is designed to prevent people using stolen credit card details to defraud cardholders like you. Often people don't realise their cards have been compromised until someone illegitimately tried to use them like this.
This is not a sign that the transaction did not go through. The charge has been approved, but before the order is fulfilled we need to verify it was the cardholder who hit the pay button.
To ensure your safety we only ask for an image showing the final four digits of the credit card and the name of the card holder. Shopify doesn't share any more than that with us, again for your own security.
We recommend taking a photo obscuring details other than your name and the final four digits.
This has to be accompanied by an image of photo ID proving the identity of the card holder. We recommend obscuring other information that's not needed such as the ID number and your date of birth.
If you would prefer not to provide these image you're not forced to - just reply to the email letting us know and we'll cancel the order and refund the card used in the transaction.
We do not print or download these images. Our privacy policy outlines the circumstances in which we use and retain this information. We are only able to request and use the images for this specific purpose of verifying your identity.
This is the email we send when ShopPay identifies an irregularity
Thanks so much for your recent purchase with MAAP!Our payment gateway has picked up on an irregularity with your transaction. For your security, we need to verify your identity and payment details.
Before we can fulfill your order we need you to send through a photograph of your ID and another of the card used to make the purchase? To verify we only need to be able to see the last 4 digits of the credit card and your name on the card to ensure it matches the purchase details.
Once we have confirmation I'll make sure that your order is shipped as soon as possible to get you out riding in your new gear. Let me know if there are any other questions.
